Last month at the Fireside RV Rental retreat, I was fortunate enough to dive into a comprehensive mastermind training led by Molly Rice, a fellow franchisee and CPA. This training was a true eye-opener, shedding light on the intricate world of accounting within our industry and, more importantly, underscoring the critical need for professional accounting expertise in our business operations. Inspired by the wealth of knowledge shared, I'm eager to pass on some invaluable tips that could transform the way we manage our finances.
Track All Expenses
Keep detailed records of every expense, including maintenance, cleaning, insurance, and marketing costs. This will help you understand your cash flow and identify areas for cost savings.
Understand Depreciation
RVs depreciate over time, so it's important to account for this in your financial planning. Understanding how to properly depreciate your RV assets can significantly impact your tax situation.
Separate Personal and Business Finances
Open a business bank account and use it exclusively for business transactions. This separation simplifies accounting processes and is crucial for tax purposes.
Utilize Accounting Software
Invest in reliable accounting software tailored for small businesses. This can automate many aspects of financial management, from invoicing to expense tracking and financial reporting.
Stay on Top of Receivables
Implement a system for tracking payments and managing invoices. Late payments can severely impact your cash flow, so consider setting clear payment terms and follow up promptly on overdue invoices.
Plan for Seasonal Cash Flow Fluctuations
RV rental demand can be seasonal. Plan your budget to accommodate these fluctuations, ensuring you have enough reserves to cover off-peak periods.
Seek Professional Advice
Consult with a CPA or financial advisor who understands the RV rental market and can provide tailored advice for tax planning, business structure, and financial growth strategies.

Check out this video where franchisee, Mark Beasley shares how the book inspired him. You can purchase a copy of the book here.
