🔥Campfires & Cashflow
A weekly spark of inspiration for families living, learning, and earning on the road.
Recently, we returned home with the intention of settling down again. We even put an offer on a house before we arrived, feeling certain it was the right move. But once we saw it in person, we knew — it wasn’t for us.
We kept searching, looking at new properties every day, but nothing fit both our style and our budget. It made us stop and ask ourselves: Why are we doing this? Were we really about to spend our savings on a house we didn’t love, just because it seemed like the "normal" thing to do?
Sure, being close to family and old friends is a huge pull. But at what cost? To afford a home we actually liked, we would have to go into debt. My husband would need to leave his business for a job he didn’t want, giving up his time freedom. We’d have to sell our camper, lose our ability to travel, and trade flexibility for a handful of PTO days each year.
We asked ourselves the hard question: If one of us were gone tomorrow, would we regret not traveling? Our oldest son dreams of visiting all 50 states before he turns 18. We only have four years left. Would we really choose "normal" over memories, over dreams, over time together?
The answer was clear.
We’ve decided to stay on the road. We have 23 states left to visit as a family — and we hope to check off 48 by the end of this year.
I’m sharing this because maybe you’re at a crossroads too.
Are you living the life you truly want to live?
Will you regret the decisions you’re making today?
Sometimes, the hardest choices are the ones that lead to the greatest adventures.
But know that you aren’t alone, there is a whole community of RVer’s that are out there that are rooting for you me included. Here are some of my favorite RV communities:
RV Queens
RV Queens is your tribe of adventurous women hitting the road and living life to the fullest! Pop in to chat when you feel like it, swap stories, or just know you've got a crew cheering you on from wherever you are. No pressure, just good vibes and great company!
Fulltime Families
Fulltime Families is exactly what it sounds like — a community of families living full-time in their RVs. They host fun events all across the country and offer a warm, welcoming atmosphere wherever you go. We attended our first event at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta last year, and it was absolutely amazing!
Xscapers RV Club
Another great club for RVers is one that offers in-person events designed to build community while you’re constantly on the move. This group welcomes travelers of all ages, creating a fun, supportive space no matter where your journey takes you!
The first step in crafting the life you want is to get rid of everything you don’t
💰 Income on the Road
You might already be living life on the road and looking for ways to add some extra income — or maybe you’re still dreaming about how to make it all work. I’m always on the lookout for campground jobs and business opportunities for my husband and me, and along the way, I often stumble across ideas I love… but just don't have the time to take on.
This week, I came across one I had to share:
A subscription box business for girls — a perfect opportunity for a mother and tween/teen daughter to run together (and yes, it totally counts as homeschooling too!).
As a mom to an 11-year-old, I absolutely loved this idea. In fact, my daughter used to be a subscriber and couldn’t get enough of it!
But let’s be real — I’m already juggling a lot and don’t have room for a new business that doesn't fit within my current niche. My daughter was previously a subscriber to this subscription box and loved it (check out the listing to sign the NDA and get more details)
For those of you who don’t know, I used to own an RV lifestyle subscription box called Out of the Box Camping — and running it was such a fun, flexible way to earn an income on the road.
If a subscription box sounds like something you'd enjoy, definitely check out RV Entrepreneur’s latest post on the topic!
📝 Roadschool Report
I’m already starting to prep for next year’s homeschool, and I’m so excited to be using Waldock’s Way unit studies again! For my 2nd grader, I’ll be using Passport to Adventures, which is based on the Magic Tree House series — books my older two absolutely loved at that age.
I love that these studies are literature-based — it’s such a fun way to spark learning and get the kids off screens for a while!
🏕 Campground of the Week
This week, we’re staying in Rhode Island — the one little New England state we hadn’t crossed off our list yet! That makes it state #27 for us.
We’re at Newport RV Park, and it’s been a great spot — quiet, clean, and with plenty of big rig-friendly sites. The kids are loving the large playground, and there’s even a dog park right across the street for our pups!
📍 Location: Neport, RI
🔥 Why we loved it: Full hook-ups, 10 minutes to the beach!
💡 Top Tip: Be sure to check out the Cliff Walk — it’s a great way to get the kids outdoors and sneak in some educational fun by exploring the historic mansions along the way!
📚 What I’m Reading
Looking for the perfect thriller to enjoy by the campfire or on the beach?
This week, I'm diving into The Perfect Divorce by Geneva Rose — the perfect sequel to The Perfect Marriage. It’s witty, twisty, and totally binge-worthy. If you love a story that keeps you guessing, this one’s a must-read!
